Helen McGuire
Invited Speaker, University of Sydney
Associate Professor Helen McGuire, a highly driven researcher at the University of Sydney, is a recognised international leader in applying mass cytometry to immunology. Her research focuses on understanding human diseases, particularly cancer, through immunological studies and the application of technological advances such as high-dimensional cytometry and imaging. She is considered Australia's most experienced researcher in mass cytometry, having started her training in 2012 at Stanford University. Her lab pioneered a novel mass cytometry-based approach to identify a pre-therapy immune signature that can predict a patient's response to immune checkpoint inhibitors. In addition to her significant publication record, she has also been recognised for her leadership and mentorship. She has held various leadership positions in the Australasian Cytometry Society, including president, and currently serves on the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry Council. She has been awarded the Marylou Ingram Scholar by the International Society for the Advancement of Cytometry and was also a National Health and Medical Research Council (CJ Martin) Fellow.
