Biography - Ilse Ariadna Valtierra Gutierrez (she / her / hers)
Ilse is a Senior Editor within the Cancer team at Nature Communications, which she joined in June of 2020. She handles manuscripts in cancer omics across all types of modalities and scales, as well as computational and AI approaches applied to cancer. She has recently spearheaded article collections on applications of AI in cancer, as well as Cancer Cell Atlases, to showcase how current technologies have impacted biological and clinical research in cancer. She is originally from Mexico and is currently based in Madrid.
Ilse’s background is in genomics and bioinformatics. Prior to her editorial career, she obtained her BSc in Genomic Sciences from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, her MSc in Molecular Biosciences – with a major in Systems Biology – from Heidelberg University, and her PhD at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where she studied clonal heterogeneity and evolution in acute myeloid leukaemia using genomics and single-cell transcriptomics.
